Navan RFC Women's 2nd's team travelled to Roscrea RFC to play the newly formed Roscrea / Portlaoise team in Leinster League Division 5.
The team travelled with a mix of experienced and new players. It was another incredible day for the Club. Martina O Neill, Aoife Hughes and Anna McGarry featured in the starting XV for their first cap. The team welcomed Kelly Brady back into the fold after a prolonged injury.
The first half proved a tough ask for the team. Roscrea were first out of the blocks & were up 17-0 at half time. Navan got their game plan back in place and this brought momentum to the team. Tara Quinn worked tirelessly around the pitch and made many try saving tackles. Ciara Delahunt from outhalf set the tempo, teammates saying she was everywhere. She robbed balls, cleaned out rucks and was still there for receiving at 10. What a performance from the birthday girl!
Martina O'Neill got herself around the pitch, finding her way naturally onto the rugby pitch, carrying well and giving the team go forward ball, essential to the team's performance.
Ciara Kennedy springing from the bench brought pace to the game. Coach David Delahunt handed out more first caps to Grace Reilly, Luba Healy and Leanne O'Neill. We also had the return of Amanda Brady from the bench.
Nour Khairy and Jess Moriarty added to their try tally's for the year, with both finishing incredible team interplay to dot down.
Anna Mennis locked down the scrums, Meabh Sexton worked in tandem with Niamh McManus to allow Ciara Delahunt direct the play.
Roscrea/Portlaoise's experience showed on the day with a final score line of 27-10 to the home side.
The squad looks towards our next home game, which takes place on Thursday, 26th October, against Emerald Warriors. KO at 8pm.
