(MATCH REPORT by Michelle Claffey)
Navan RFCMT Women's 1st XV squad travelled to MU Barnhall RFC on Sunday afternoon in their Leinster League Division 3 clash.
Navan were heading into the game with many players unavailable due to LGFA commitments. It took Navan time to find their way around the pitch. The new combinations worked well around the pitch and on setpiece to assist the team with front foot ball. Navan's set piece proved to be a fantastic launch pad for them.
In the 14th minute backrow Kayleigh Crinion took a clean ball provided from the lineout to run 60 metres, fending off players to score in the left corner. The forwards provided a platform to allow the back run through the plays, giving Molly Fitzgerald an opportunity to get on the ball and dot down under the posts. Molly Fitzgerald struck for her second try, the forward pack providing an excellent attacking platform.
From kick off Navan kept pressure on Barnhall, security at ruck time gave Paula Keating the chance to move the ball to the ever waiting Emma Looby and Mairead Carty combination. Quick ruck ball and quick hands to the wing allowed Allie Flynn to run in from 40 metres to score. From the kick off Louise Elliott had an excellent carry, drawing in two defenders, releasing Molly Fitzgerald for her third try of the day.
Louise Crinion countered Barnhall at ruck time, showing her tenacity, which gave loose ball. A loose ball from a kick was collected in the Barnhall 22, and Navan's line chase was excellent. There was pressure from the kick chase from Aisling Kelly and Anna Hillard. Hillard showed her ability to turnover ball, ripping and running in from 20 metres out to dot down for Navan's final try of the day.
Overall, it was a strong performance from the Navan squad.
They look forward to the week off and regroup to face Arklow at home on Sunday 5th November at 1pm.
