Girls's Under 18's
Leinster U18 Girls League Phase 1 Group 1 (Saturday 18th Nov)
Ashbourne/Balbriggan 5 Navan 57
Miltown, Ashbourne.
(Match Report by John Molloy)
After some hard losses recently, the Navan girls were back in top form Saturday as they took on Ashbourne/Ballbriggan. Dominating the opposition from the beginning, it only took four minutes for Emma Brogan to score her first try of the day. Tara Quinn was next over the whitewash followed by another from Emma and then Ella got the first of her hat-trick, all within the first twenty minutes. Sarah Molloy then scored a brace of tries, and Ella finished the first half with her second.
Ashbourne/Ballbriggan came out stronger in the second half eventually getting one back but Alex Connor, in a new role on the wing, wasn’t long about cancelling it . Ella finished the scoring with a cheeky
interception on the Ashbourne/Ballbriggan ten meter line out pacing the opposition to score under the posts.
Lillian Brady topped up the scoring with twelve points from the kicking tee.
Although a complete team effort, some of the girls deserve a mention. Tara Quinn was enormous in defence. She gave a masterclass wrapping them low and driving them to the ground. As the saying goes, the taller they are, the harder they fall.
Emma Brogan is our Woman of the Match, scored her two tries, was involved in every attack and was solid as a rock in defence.
It was fantastic to have Katie Kearney on the sideline, currently recovering from injury, but up and down the line, like a busy bee, with friendly words of encouragement for both squads.
