Navan Women's 1st's welcomed Greystones to Balreask Old for their return fixture of Leinster League Division 3. On a misty Sunday afternoon the playing conditions were not kind however both teams set out from the start with intent to get a foothold in the game early. It took 15 minutes before the teams got on the scoreboard with Navan's Emily Jo White showing her strength in close contact to get herself over the line. This was duly converted by Anna Bolger. From the restart kick off Navan continued to pressure Greystones. A well-timed offload by Cara Martin released the speedy winger Áine Castles down the left wing. Castles dotted down to the left of the posts, Anna Bolger again slotting the extras.
Emma Looby, Mairead Carty and the adaptable Kayleigh Crinion gave Navan go-forward ball. Cara Martin scored on the left-hand side after good hands by the back line, after sustained pressure in the Greystones 22 where she powered over from close range, using her very good footwork.
Half-time Score: 17-0
Alanna Caffrey was introduced in the second half, where the winger showed her evasion and power to dot down twice in quick succession. Alanna Caffrey was excellent on both sides of the ball, shutting down the Greystone's attack on a number of occasions. Her teammate Aisling Kelly was on hand at the breakdown to support her but was the first there to celebrate the try.
The Navan scrum adapted throughout the day with Ava Galvin showing her versatility at front row and back row. The scrum gave Anna Bolger a platform to work from. Aoife Ryan was the first to every ruck, turning over a number of balls to keep Navan on top. The pack worked tirelessly shutting down the strong Greystones attack.
Greystones were camped in the Navan 22, there was sustained pressure coming. The team held their defensive line, kept their connections and put pressure on the Greystones team. The pressure resulted in Cara Martin coming out with the ball in hand and racing 80 metres down the pitch to dot down for her second of the day. Anna Bolger again added the conversion.
Full-Time Score: Navan 36 Greystones 0
