Balreask Old, Navan (Sunday 26th November)

On a chilly, grey, and wet Sunday morning, Navan RFC set a historic milestone with their first-ever "Women's Pre-Match Brunch" at the Balreask Old clubhouse. The event, held ahead of the Women's 1st & 2nd XV's double-header against Greystones & Swords in Leinster Women's League divisions 3 & 5, drew over one hundred attendees.
The brunch, supported by main club sponsor "Hannon Travel," provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere despite the weather conditions. Club-President Damien Dixon expressed delight at the club hosting such an event, particularly tailored for the club's Women's teams.
Addressing the assembled guests, Dixon extended a warm welcome to Navan RFC and emphasized the significance of this gathering for the Women's teams. He acknowledged the commitment of sponsors, supporters, and the entire Navan RFC community in making the Women's Pre-Match Brunch a reality.
Defense Coach Michelle Claffey, reading out a message from Head Coach Jackie Shiels, conveyed gratitude to various sponsors, the Executive committee, family, friends, and supporters of Women's rugby for their unwavering support. Shiels reflected on the past 12 months, commending the ambition and dedication of the club, team management, and players who contribute week in and week out.
Special recognition was given to the Women's team's main sponsor, "P. Bermingham's Bar," Ludlow Street, Navan, along with new player position sponsors, food sponsors, and equipment sponsors who have bolstered the Women's teams this year.
Navan RFC's Women's section, in its 22nd season, celebrated the unique achievement of fielding two independent teams simultaneously this season in the Leinster Women's leagues for the very first time. This accomplishment is a testament to the commitment of the players and the club's dedication to women's rugby in the Leinster North-East area.
Shiels outlined a 5-year plan aiming to elevate the standards of women's rugby in Navan and by extension the North East, with the goal of the club gaining promotion through the leagues. The objective is to provide a pathway for Navan RFC underage players to reach the highest levels in Leinster & Ireland club rugby and fulfill their playing potential.
In conclusion, appreciation was expressed to sponsors and club executives for making female players feel valued and committed to Navan RFC. The hope is that this support will persist, propelling the Women's teams toward their goals and establishing a lasting legacy in the world of women's rugby.
The Women's Pre-Match Brunch stands as a testament to Navan RFC's commitment to fostering a strong community, celebrating achievements, and paving the way for the future of women's rugby in the region.
