Navan RFC made the journey to Newbridge RFC for the First Round of the Division 5 Cup. Navan were eagerly awaiting the beginning of the Cup campaign on the back of a successful Division 5 League competition which sees them promoted to Division 4 for next season.
A delayed kickoff to the game didn't inhibit the Navan attacking game with Martina O Neill getting her name on the score sheet after 5 minutes. Lisa Keenan slotted the conversion from a very tight angle to get Navan off to a flying start. The winger, Lauren Kelly was next to get her name on the scoresheet. Kelly finished off a fantastic attacking platform by showing her pace and strength. The forwards worked incredibly hard to provide a platform. This consistent performance was spearheaded by Nour Khairy and Louise Elliott. As a result of this hard work, Leanne O Neill dotted down on the wing with a searing run. This left the score 17-0 at half time.
Khairy started the second as she finished the first with her strong ball carrying putting her into space to get another try for Navan, ably converted by Leah Morris. The second half saw a lot of interpaly and dominance displayed by both teams. The game was a brilliant display of rugby for the League. With time ticking away Keelan O Connor spotted a gap in the Newbridge defence, and used all her strength to get a try under the posts, with Morris again slotting her conversion.

The win sees Navan secure a home Division 5 semi final v St Marys/Guinness on April 7th at 1pm. A double header with the Division 3 team. All support welcome!
