Dear Members and Friends,
It is a wonderful honour and privilege to be asked to be President of Navan Rugby Football Club for the coming season 2024/2025, our centenary season. I look forward to representing the Club to the best of my ability.
Our club, formed in 1925, has reached its 100th season. From small acorns 100 season’s ago, has a truly magnificent tree grown and we intend to both commemorate and celebrate this magnificent achievement with a number of events throughout the season. Please see our ClubZap & Social Media pages for more information.
Congratulations to Evan Dixon on his election as Club Captain, a very deserving recipient. I wish Evan, Head Coach Jason Harris-Wright & their squad and backroom team all the very best in AIL Division 2A, our 16th season as a senior club.
Congratulations to Aoife Ryan on her election as Women’s Captain, another very deserving recipient who brings a huge amount of experience to the role. Last season was groundbreaking, firstly by fielding 2 adult women’s teams for the first time in our history & then for both to go on & win League & Cup “doubles” and to be promoted.
I wish Aoife, Head Coach Jackie Shiels, their players and backroom teams all the best in Leinster Women’s Division 2 & Division 4 this season.
This season will see us fielding 4 adult men’s teams, 2 adult women’s teams, 7 youth boy’s teams, 3 youth girl’s teams, 8 mini’s squads, as well as our Friday Night Social Tag Group & our inclusive Blue Dragons. I want to wish all players a successful, injury-free & most importantly, enjoyable season. We acknowledge all the work coaches, team managers & everyone involved at mini & youth level does & the importance of them creating a development pathway to our adult teams.
All this activity could not happen without grass & pitches. Our club continues to invest in playing space as can be seen in the latest development on the “Oakley Pitches”. Increased numbers & increased rainfall continue to present challenges, but we are committed to face these challenges head on. Thank you to our Groundsman, Ralph Condie for the magnificent playing surfaces he continues to cultivate, under often difficult climatic conditions.
Thank you to our main club sponsor, Hannon Travel for your continued support of our club, it is very much appreciated.
Thank you to all businesses & individuals who continue to support our club through sponsorship. Without the support of Hannon Travel & these businesses & individuals, we simply could not operate at this level.
Our Clubhouse & Bar have had some refurbishments done for the Centenary. Shortly our Club Shop will re-open & will have a selection of player & supporter garments, all with the 100-year logo. The Centenary Wall is also close to completion & will offer you the opportunity to place your name or that of a deceased loved one, onto the wall. Well done to everyone involved in the refurbishment, it looks fantastic.
I would encourage you all to visit our clubhouse shop and purchase some of the centenary supporters’ items, it would be great to see Navan members & fans dressed in Navan colours around the town! While at the shop, take a visit into our bar, where Mary & her team will look after your refreshment requirements.
Off the pitch, through the hard work of the Club’s Executive Committee, led by our Chairman Brennie Farrell, our new gym will shortly be completed. This building will allow us to keep up with the strength and conditioning demands of our players & members. It is quite simply a magnificent structure and is one of the best club gyms in the country.
I want to acknowledge the work carried out by the Executive and numerous committees that keep this club moving forward. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our club & I thank every single person who volunteers time for our club. We can’t function without volunteers and to you all, I am eternally grateful.
Finally, I look forward to welcoming all our members, guests and spectators to Balreask Old in the coming season and I hope to see you in the clubhouse after the game for some Navan RFC hospitality.
Yours in Rugby
Scott Ennis
President 2024/2025
