Navan Women's 2nd XV started their Leinster Women's League Division 4 season with a dominant 33-0 victory against the Emerald Warriors at home. Following their successful promotion last season after a league and cup double in Division 5, Navan came into this match looking to maintain their winning momentum.
Navan opened the scoring early, with flanker Keelan O’Connor crossing the try line in the seventh minute after a break deep into the Warriors' half. Winger Anna McGarry, on kicking duty, successfully added the conversion. The home side extended their lead shortly after when team captain and scrum-half Paula Keating scored, with McGarry converting once again to create a clear gap between the teams. Navan continued their dominance, with another brace of converted tries before halftime, securing a commanding 21-0 lead.
The second half saw the Emerald Warriors put in a resolute defensive effort, preventing further points for long stretches. The game became an attritional midfield battle, with Navan's forwards standing firm, particularly O’Connor, who delivered an outstanding performance to earn the player of the match accolade. Despite the Warriors' defensive resilience, Navan eventually broke through again to score an unconverted try, closing out the match 33-0.
This comprehensive win sets the tone for Navan’s season as they now prepare to face Roscrea in an away fixture next Sunday, 6th October, at 1 PM.
