Balreask Old, Navan.

Navan Women’s 2nd XV started the calendar year on the pitch with a pivotal win in Leinster Women's League Division four over Roscrea in Balreask Old on Sunday.
Coming into this fixture, Navan sat at the top of the table, one point clear of Roscrea, who were the only team to have defeated Navan so far this season and had a game in hand.

The home side started the brighter in the opening period taking the ball into Roscrea’s half of the field with some strong carries by the forwards, robust defence and tackling by Roscrea though kept Navan at bay through this initial period.
Navan did make a breakthrough on eight minutes when after the ball was swept out wide to the right, winger Molly Egan beat her opposite number and ran into score a try in the corner to give a 5-0 lead.
The score for Navan looked to trigger the Tipperary side to get more into the game, and they started to build upon their organised defence with retention of ball possession and moving the ball quickly.
Navan’s tackling was up to the task of containing Roscrea's attempts at getting a hold in their half and both teams engaged in a midfield battle with possession going back and forth up until half-time.
Roscrea took the initiative from the restart pushing into the Navan half and forced the home side into some pressured tackling, and eventually made a breakthrough within five minutes with a breakaway try scored under the posts with the following conversion putting the visitors into the lead.
The lead though only lasted for six minutes as Navan not wanting to wilt under pressure, looked to impose themselves back into the contest from the restart. Once again some strong forward carries provided a platform to move the ball into the Roscrea half of the field with the ball then quickly being pass out wide to the right and substitute back Niamh Lister getting over for a try in the right-hand corner.
Centre Lisa Keenan added the extras after striking the ball perfectly from the sidelines to sent the ball between the posts for a successful conversation.
Both sides engaged in an arm-wrestle of a game played in the midfield of the pitch, however resolute defending and handling errors meant that both sides cancelled each other out, with front rower Kelly Brady putting in a lot of tackles throughout the gamel

Navan held on until the final whistle to grab the win a crucial league points to open up daylight at the (top of the table)
