Navan’s J1/2nd XV delivered a dominant performance in their opening round of the Bank of Ireland Leinster Provincial Towns Cup, defeating local rivals Balbriggan in style at Balreask Old.
Despite an early penalty from Balbriggan giving them a brief lead, Navan quickly seized control and showcased their attacking prowess. With a combination of forward dominance and clinical backline execution, Navan ran in seven tries in total.
Balbriggan opened the scoring with a penalty from their full-back after Navan was penalized for not releasing after eight minutes.
Navan responded with a quick tap-and-go try from Jack Dixon, converted by out-half Cillian Farrell.
Navan then kicked on to run in three more tries before halftime, including a driving maul try by their forwards, extending their lead to (26-3) at the break.
In the second half, Navan continued to dominate, with tries from Michael Brady and Woodley Nicholson, who crossed the line after a break down the left, before Sean McEntagart on the stroke of full time capped off a comprehensive team move with Navan's seventh try, converted by Farrell to end the game at 47-3.
Navan displayed excellent teamwork, strong forward drives, and swift backline moves, making them a formidable opponent for the rest of the competition.
The Balreask Old side now advances to the Second Round of the Leinster Provincial Towns Cup, with their next opponents to be announced.
