A significant contingent of nine players from last season’s Navan RFC U16 Girls team have been actively involved in summer training with the Leinster North-East U17 squad. The players are:
Grace McWeeney, Emma O’Rourke, Amelia Lynch, Amelia Gillespie, Ellen Vuckovic, Tessa Flynn, Tati Garcia, Caoimhe Martin, and Robyn Wall.
On Saturday afternoon, the North-East squad had their first outing of the season with a friendly practice match against the Ulster U18 side, whose Interprovincial Championship campaign begins next weekend.
The fixture, held at North Meath RFC grounds, was played over three 20-minute periods and provided a valuable competitive test. A number of Navan players featured during the game, with many getting significant time on the field. Their involvement is a promising sign as preparations ramp up for this season’s Leinster “Sarah Robinson Cup” Inter-Area competition.
The match gave coaches an important opportunity to assess combinations and fitness levels as the squad builds toward a busy few weeks ahead.
Another proud moment for Navan RFC and its growing legacy in girls and women’s rugby.
