Navan Rugby Football Club hosted a special Women’s Rugby Brunch at its Balreask Old clubhouse on Sunday, 12th October, ahead of the club’s Women’s 1st and 3rd XV Leinster League double-header.

The event featured an exclusive guest appearance from Lynne Cantwell, former Ireland international and current IRFU Head of Women’s Strategy, who was recently inducted as the 174th member of the World Rugby Hall of Fame.

Cantwell, one of Ireland’s most distinguished rugby figures, earned 86 caps for her country and has played a pivotal role in shaping the modern women’s game both on and off the field. Her visit to Balreask Old was a significant honour for Navan RFC, reflecting the club’s growing influence and commitment to developing women’s rugby in the Leinster North-East region.

During her address, Cantwell praised the efforts of clubs like Navan, highlighting the importance of providing clear playing pathways for girls and women — from minis and youth levels through to adult rugby — to ensure long-term participation and success in the sport.

Following her talk, Cantwell was presented with a special club memento by Navan RFC President Eddie Lyons and Catherine Brady, Chair of the Navan RFC Centenary Book Committee, in recognition of her contribution to Irish rugby and support for the club.
