Volunteer opportunity – Navan RFC Club Welfare Officer (CWO)


Summary:
Navan RFC (Rugby Football Club) is seeking a volunteer to fill the role of Club Welfare Officer.

This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and positive environment for all members, especially young players.

The volunteer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the club's safeguarding policies, ensuring that all coaches and volunteers are vetted, and acting as a point of contact for welfare concerns.

The IRFU’s Club Safeguarding Guide also describes the role and the various support structures (both IRFU and Leinster Branch) who will assist the CWO – this document is available at Club-Safeguarding-Guide.pdf

The role is expected to take 2 to 4 hours per week. Some additional time can be expected at the start of each season to coordinate coaches applying for, or renewing, their Garda vetting.

Key Responsibilities:

·                  Safeguarding: Implement and monitor the club's safeguarding policies and procedures. 

·                  Vetting: Ensure all coaches and volunteers are Garda vetted. 

·                  Communication: Act as a point of contact for welfare-related concerns for players, parents, and coaches. 

·                  Reporting: Follow established reporting procedures for any welfare concerns. 

·                  Policy Implementation: Ensure the club adheres to the IRFU (Irish Rugby Football Union) Safeguarding Policy. 

·                  Training: Participate in relevant training to stay updated on best practices. 

·                  Record Keeping: Maintain records as required by the IRFU, such as coaching qualifications and vetting information. 

·                  Promoting a Positive Environment: Help foster a positive and supportive environment for all players. 

·                  Communication: Keep players, parents, and coaches informed about welfare matters. 

Required Skills and Qualities:

·                  Understanding of Safeguarding: A strong understanding of child protection principles and best practices is essential. 

·                  Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to interact with players, parents, and other club members. 

·                  Organizational Skills: The ability to manage information, keep records, and implement policies effectively. 

·                  Teamwork: Willingness to work with other club officials and volunteers. 

·                  Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. 

·                  Commitment: A commitment to creating a safe and positive environment for all club members.
