(Report by Graeme Morrison)
Twelve Virgina All Blacks players made the journey down the M3 with their parents and coaches on a damp Sunday morning to join the Navan Blue Dragons regular training session.
This was the first joint session between the two teams, and the players from each team got to know each other very quickly as the session developed.
After some fine goal kicking, both sides went through the warm ups, some passing drills, with great skills on show, before getting the tags on and having a game of bulldog. This turned out to be a firm favourite, but next time there is definitely a need for more defenders!
The Session finished with a game of tag rugby between two teams, mixed from Virginia and Navan, which ended in a 2-2 draw. It was brilliant to see that there was a very high level of teamwork given that the players had only just met.
After the session both sets of players went into the clubhouse for well earned drinks and treats. Navan RFC President Scott Ennis was present at the training session, and was able to meet all the players, with a personal introduction to everyone.
The Blue Dragons are grateful for Scott taking the time to come to the session after a very busy weekend with the Centenary Club Challenge. We also had time to sing Happy Birthday to Jennah one of the players who celebrated her 16th birthday the previous Sunday.
The joint session was a tremendous success with both teams thoroughly enjoying themselves. Virginia All Blacks run over the summer and so unfortunately will have to wait for the next joint session, but the Blue Dragons are already looking forward to making the return journey to visit their new friends in Virginia when they start back in April.
