The Men’s Under 20s demonstrated incredible grit and determination, staging a massive second-half fightback but ultimately running out of time in a high-octane, eleven-try thriller against Galwegians at Crowley Park on Sunday.
The match, a Premier 2 – Section B clash, saw a clear game of two halves. The home side, Galwegians, powered through the opening 40 minutes, scoring six tries to build a commanding 36-19 lead by the half-time whistle. Navan, despite the deficit, managed to cross the whitewash multiple times themselves, ensuring the first half remained high-scoring.
The break seemed to galvanise the Navan side, who came out firing in the second half. Displaying superior commitment and fitness, the visitors completely shut out the home attack, keeping Galwegians scoreless. Navan poured on the pressure and added twelve points without reply, narrowing the huge gap to a single score.
Despite their relentless effort, the early damage proved too much to overcome, and Galwegians clung on for the 36-31 bonus-point victory. Navan’s five-try haul secured them a valuable four-try bonus point and a losing bonus point, a fair reward for their spirit.
The Navan U20s attacking efforts were led by Cormac Kenny, Robin Hamill, and Caolon Duffy, who were among the team's try scorers.
A special congratulations went to Cormac Kenny, who was named the U20's Player of the Match, sponsored by The Central Navan, for his standout performance against a strong Galwegians opposition.
The result leaves Navan in 6th place in the JP Fanagan (U20) Premier 2 - Section B table, having secured 6 points from their opening four matches. Their battling performance against a top-three side will provide a strong platform for the coming weeks.
Navan’s Men's Under 20’s will look to convert their fighting spirit into a home win next weekend when they welcome Dublin University/Trinity to Balreask Old. The match is set for a 2:30pm kick-off on Sunday, November 16th.
